The author of The Wedding Date serves up a novel about what happens when a public proposal doesn't turn into a happy ending, thanks to a woman who knows exactly how to make one on her own...

When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn't come as a surprise--or happen in front of 45,000 people.

When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn't the hard part--they've only been dating for five months, and he can't even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans...

At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik's rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He's even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik's social media blows up--in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can't be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex. But when their glorified hookups start breaking the rules, one of them has to be smart enough to put on the brakes...

I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher. This does not influence my thoughts on this book or this review.

I liked Guillory’s debut (The Wedding Date) earlier this year so when I heard of a companion book, I knew I’d have to read it.

When Nikole is proposed to her dude-bro boyfriend of five months at a Dodgers game, she’s caught completely off guard. She immediately says no but now risks a public harassment by the media. Carlos, who’s also at the game, rushes her away from a camera crew and tries to help control the fallout. As Carlos and Nikole spend more time together, they have to decide whether their relationship is casual or if it’s getting more serious.

I really liked both Nikole and Carlos. They were both complex characters with their own unique personalities. I loved how Nikole knew what she wanted and she was very clear about her boundaries. I also liked that she was a freelance writer, and that her occupation was a big part of the book. I also loved Carlos’ protective side and the dynamic with his family. Especially compared to The Wedding Date, I felt like this couple had a lot more depth. I really liked both of them and I also loved their chemistry together.

Overall, The Proposal was definitely an enjoyable romance novel and I really recommend it for people who are intrigued by the premise and want to read a romance with well-rounded characters.
