This week, we’re waiting on two thrilling novels that we both can’t wait to read!
Octavia’s Pick
Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh
Release Date: July 25th 2017
We Need Diverse Books founder Ellen Oh returns with Spirit Hunters, a high-stakes middle grade mystery series about Harper Raine, the new seventh grader in town who must face down the dangerous ghosts haunting her younger brother. A riveting ghost story and captivating adventure, this tale will have you guessing at every turn!
Harper doesn’t trust her new home from the moment she steps inside, and the rumors are that the Raine family’s new house is haunted. Harper isn’t sure she believes those rumors, until her younger brother, Michael, starts acting strangely. The whole atmosphere gives Harper a sense of déjà vu, but she can’t remember why. She knows that the memories she’s blocking will help make sense of her brother’s behavior and the strange and threatening sensations she feels in this house, but will she be able to put the pieces together in time?
Shelly’s Pick
A Line in the Dark by Malinda Lo
Release Date: October 17th 2017
The line between best friend and something more is a line always crossed in the dark.
Jess Wong is Angie Redmond’s best friend. And that’s the most important thing, even if Angie can’t see how Jess truly feels. Being the girl no one quite notices is OK with Jess anyway. While nobody notices her, she’s free to watch everyone else. But when Angie begins to fall for Margot Adams, a girl from the nearby boarding school, Jess can see it coming a mile away. Suddenly her powers of observation are more curse than gift.
As Angie drags Jess further into Margot’s circle, Jess discovers more than her friend’s growing crush. Secrets and cruelty lie just beneath the carefree surface of this world of wealth and privilege, and when they come out, Jess knows Angie won’t be able to handle the consequences.
When the inevitable darkness finally descends, Angie will need her best friend.
“It doesn’t even matter that she probably doesn’t understand how much she means to me. It’s purer this way. She can take whatever she wants from me, whenever she wants it, because I’m her best friend.”
A Line in the Dark is a story of love, loyalty, and murder.
What book are you highly anticipating?
Ooh, love these spotlights for Asian authors! Ellen Oh’s MG sounds full of fun. I still need to finish her YA Prophecy trilogy though. One read, two to go!
I’m not about that murder/thriller storyline for A Line in the Dark but that cover is absolutely GORGEOUS. Maybe I’ll see if I’m interested after hearing how the friendship pans out (I’m just scared of heartache okay I need Angie and Jess to be okay).
Wonderful books!
Yeah I’m usually not a murder/thrilled kind of person but THAT COVER and the fact that it’s Malinda Lo makes me really want to read it!
Spirit Hunters sounds adorable and definitely like something I’ll pick up. A Line in the Dark has such a stunning cover and sounds like a book that will send shivers down my spine. Great picks!
