Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
This week’s topic is to choose favourite books in any genre of our choosing. Octavia has chosen to do sci-fi/fantasy while I am going to be doing some contemporaries.
Top Ten Favourite Fantasy/Sci-fi and Contemporary Books
Shelly’s Contemporary Picks
If you’re a big fan of contemporary, it’s no surprise that Aristotle and Dante ends up on my list. I don’t want to explain why I love this book because SPOILERS but EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS *cough cough* that means you too Octavia *cough cough*
This is one of my favourite books of ALL TIME. I am the biggest black sheep when it comes to this because most people I know are not the biggest fans of Eleanor and Park. My signed copy sits proudly on my shelves.
I am seriously a TOTAL SUCKER when it comes to cute romances. Anna and the French Kiss is just so cute and freakin’ awesome, it had to make an appearance on this list.
Although Cassidy annoyed me in this book, the main character Ezra is just SO DANG AWESOME so I just had to include this one on my list.
And last but not least is This Song Will Save Your Life. This book doesn’t revolve around a cute romance (which is totally unexpected) and it’s all about Elise and her love for music. I seriously love this book too. Heck, I love all the books on this list.
Octavia’s Sci-fi/Fantasy Picks
This was my very first true (in my opinion) fantasy read. And even though I went in totally unprepared I LOVED it so hard! The characters, the world building the PLOT! This book started my fantasy obsession.
My Darkling! My dear dear Darkling! This book put me through every emotion humanly possible!! And to top it off it seriously made Bardugo one of my all time favorite authors. She took something that I felt “meh” about and completely turned it on it’s head and I have to give her props for that.
No fantasy list would be complete without one of the bestest (yep that’s a word today) fantasy authors EVER!! Sanderson has this way of getting a reader to totally emerge themselves into his books. You see the world and feel for the characters and you just KNOW that this next part is really going to hurt.
In my humble opinion Uninvited is the best book I’ve read in quite some time. It’s equal parts fantasy and sci-fi to me and Jordan just kicked ass on the “what if” possibilities of the future! A KILL GENE?! Who thinks of this?! Sophie Jordan, that’s who.
The best (tied with Steelheart) book I read of 2013. This book had everything to me and as soon as I get a paycheck or two under my belt I am so grabbing me a physical copy just so I can re-read it at the drop of a hat
