BEA Recap ~ Day One ~

Posted June 5, 2014 by Octavia in Random Ramblings / 0 Comments

Hello my lovelies! I am back from BEA, which means I’m well rested, slightly more calm than during my trip and FINALLY surrounded by my BEA haul. This of course means I can finally start my BEA recaps!!! For the next 3 days I’ll do a recap post for each day I attended BEA. I’m talking the full on good, bad and PAINFUL stories from each day as well as a “unboxing my haul” for that day. So let’s get to it!!

Pre-BEA I was mainly excited about all the books. I mean let’s be honest, tables and tables and TABLES of books? Who wouldn’t find that to be the most exciting part?! But after making it to the convention center I realized that the best part of BEA would be meeting other bloggers.

I was excited (and nervous) to meet Nikki (and any other blogger to be honest) but turns out these really are my people! Nikki is probably the sweetest and most well organized person I’ve ever met. And it truly was the best decision I’ve ever made to tackle BEA with her. I’m so grateful and happy we were able to not only meet but seriously hangout with each other!

But more on Nikki’s awesomeness and the boatload of other bloggers I got to meet in a moment!  My very first day at BEA (Thursday) started at 4:30/5am. Yeah that’s not a typo. If you’re planning on going to BEA one day be prepared to wake up at the butt-crack of dawn. Anywho, we got up at 4:30/5:00 got ready for the day and left the hostel by 6:30. After a 20 minute walk to the Javits (not including our stop for breakfast at Dunkin Donuts) we made it to the Javits, grabbed our badges and faced our first (of many) lines.

Day 1 Line

We actually had a really great spot in line and we settled in for a 2 hour wait for the convention doors to open. Two hours seems like a long time but it gave us a moment to open up our maps of the convention center floor, highlight publishers, go over the signings we wanted to hit for the day, and galley drops we needed to be ready for.

Then the madness began. At 9am there is what I will forever call the “run of the ARC’s” (run of the bulls reference anyone?). This is the first glimpse you get of how easy it is to be trampled on the floor. Personally I missed out on day one’s run of the ARC’s since I decided to dash to Disney in hope of finding This Shattered World (spoiler alert! THEY DIDN’T HAVE IT *gasp*), then off to the Caragh O’Brien signing for The Vault Of Dreamers.

After I got to gush about seeing Caragh, having her ASK FOR MY BUSINESS CARD!! I went to hit the Rainbow Rowell line. Sadly the lovely folks at MacMillan told me there was no line for the Rainbow signing and I needed to come back 15 minutes before the signing! This was crazy not smart. There was a MOB of people waiting for Rainbow so I grabbed some random folks, formed a circle (totally not a line) and waited for Rainbow. Not lines were the highlight of BEA for me because I got to meet so many people I wouldn’t have even known about before.

{RAINBOW FREAKING ROWELL & I}

By the end of day one I made a ton of new friends, shipped home 19lbs worth of books, and had feet so sore even the thought of walking made me want to fall over. But instead of going back to the hostel where I could nurse my poor feet I went to Housing Works Bookstore for the Rainbow Rowell reading and since I can’t form proper words for how awesome the event was I recorded it! But I want to check with Rainbow (or her publicist) first to make sure it’s ok that I post said video. Sorry guys, but it’s the right thing to do.

Crazy amazing right?! Best flipping reading ever, right?! BEST. NIGHT. OF. MY LIFE!!!

But now on to what you’re really here for ….the books from day 1!
