"Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . "
Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.
Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.
When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.
By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.
What would he say . . . ?
As one of Rainbow Rowell’s avid fans, I knew I needed to read Attachments to earn fully-fledged fangirl status and I’m so glad that I did. While Attachments is an adult romance (which I do not read often), it still had the elements of Rainbow’s writing that I love so much.
Lincoln works for a newspaper company, reading all of the employees emails for inappropriate content. After a few weeks on the job, he notices the funny and hilarious emails of best friends, Beth and Jennifer. Their emails are witty, funny and just plain interesting. He quickly realizes he’s falling in love with Beth but what can he say to her?
Now, doesn’t that just sound FREAKIN’ AWESOME?!
I absolutely adored the characters. Beth and Jennifer had the best jokes and their emails were hilarious. They joked about everything and anything and didn’t care about what happened! I loved their distinct personalities and problems as well. They both had a unique voice despite their whole characterization is done through emails. I also adored Lincoln. He was witty, a little insecure and just the right amount of awkward. These characters definitely made one heck of a novel!
Also, I really enjoyed the plot of the book. Despite it being a romance, the romance elements weren’t as heavily emphasized as one might think. The romance was gradual and really progressed over time. The book also had a lot of other important and interesting plot lines such as bromance, family and getting over people from your past. The unique plot lines and romance worked together in a very interesting and real way.
And now comes the fangirly part. First, this book is just ADORABLE and FUNNY. Seriously, if you love romance, contemporary, Rainbow Rowell or heck, awesome friendships: READ THIS BOOK! Beth was easily my favourite character with her witty attitude and snarky comments. I also loved reading her emails and her advice to Jennifer was always appreciated and wise. She definitely made a pretty awesome love interest for Lincoln. While we’re discussing Lincoln, let me just say that he is freaking adorable and cute. Heck, read this book just for him!
Overall, I loved Attachments and I highly recommend it! I highly recommend it as a summer read because it’s light, funny and unique, perfect for the beach!
