The romantic story of a girl who gets plucked from obscurity to star in the next major feature film franchise based on a book and the ensuing love triangles she gets entangled in on—-and off screen.
Meet Paige Townsen, Rainer Devon, and Jordan Wilder…
When Paige Townsen, a young unknown, gets cast in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a crowded movie set on the shores of Maui, and is spending quality time with her co-star Rainer Devon, one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie’s famous love triangle, Paige’s crazy new life gets even crazier.
In this coming-of-age romance inspired by the kind of celeb hookups that get clever nicknames and a million page views, Paige must figure out who she is – and who she wants – while the whole world watches.
I received an ARC of this book at BEA, this does not affect the content of my review.
I finished reading Famous in Love a week ago and it has taken me this long to write a review because honestly, I feel so conflicted. I really enjoyed this book up until the end but there were some parts that I just hated but I’m not sure what to think overall.
Paige is a young aspiring actress and when she gets cast in a book-to-movie adaptation that features a love triangle and soon, her life starts to resemble that on the big screen (minus the whole stuck-on-an-island part). Paige is now torn between the kind and sweet Rainer Devon and the super mysterious Jordan Wilder (who has a reputation for being wild) (..sorry I had to use that pun).
The plot of Famous in Love was pretty good but I was sort of bored with the whole thing. I was basically only invested in the romance, and even that turned out to be disappointing in the end. I thought the whole actress plot-line was interesting, and I enjoyed reading Paige’s passion for acting but I didn’t love it. I liked reading Paige’s journey but as a character, Paige was sometimes annoying. I mean, I loved how well-developed her personality was and how much she loved acting but she was sometimes so whiny to the point that it got uncomfortable to even read the book.
In terms of the romance, I was really conflicted. On one hand, I liked Rainer and thought he was a genuinely nice guy but I loved reading the chemistry between Jordan and Paige. I mean, Jordan/Paige have a somewhat instalovey reaction to each other but I still thought their romance was well-developed. The romance as a whole was really good and definitely kept me guessing until the last moment. Although, I hated the last moment. I mean, I can’t understand Paige’s reasoning behind what happened in the end and it was very frustrating.
Overall, I thought that Famous in Love was a pretty good novel and I am still so conflicted about it. I am still pretty frustrated with the ending and I hope that the rumours of a sequel are true so I can know what happens next, there was definitely some unanswered questions. I recommend this one for people who are willing to overlook minor issues/frustrations to read a fantastic coming-of-age novel about a young actress.
