Sixteen-year-old Beckan and her friends are the only fairies brave enough to stay in Ferrum when war breaks out. Now there is tension between the immortal fairies, the subterranean gnomes, and the mysterious tightropers who arrived to liberate the fairies. But when Beckan's clan is forced to venture into the gnome underworld to survive, they find themselves tentatively forming unlikely friendships and making sacrifices they couldn't have imagined. As danger mounts, Beckan finds herself caught between her loyalty to her friends, her desire for peace, and a love she never expected. This stunning, lyrical fantasy is a powerful exploration of what makes a family, what justifies a war, and what it means to truly love.
I did not finish this book. This review explains why the book itself did not work for me
Shelly told me A History of Glitter and Blood required patience to get in to. But after just 10 pages I knew that:
1) I didn’t have time for that kind of patience and
2) I was hopelessly lost and perfectly fine with walking away.
To be 100% honest with you I can’t tell you what happened during those 10 pages. I can’t tell you who the characters were. I can’t tell you what the plot was about. I can tell you that maybe, just maybe, if I wasn’t fighting so hard to kick butt during ARC August I may have stuck with it a little longer. I may have waited it out to see if a story developed after the jumble of words and names and things on those first 10 pages. But for now I quit and my head is very happy I did.
Yeah… I’m considering DNFing this one as well. I’m only about 40 pages in and I’ve been reading it for a week. I have no idea what is happening plot wise. I may slog through it though because it is my only e-ARC for the month and I like having them to read when I’m commuting.
I didn’t even request this one, because I typically am ambivalent towards fae stories (except one certain writer, who i will read anything she puts out *coughsjmaascough*). However, GO YOU for stopping when you knew it wasn’t right for you. I don’t know how many hours I’ve wasted reading parts of books I didn’t like. I’ve finally got to a point where I can be like, “NOPE!” and it is so liberating!
ALSO, how did I forget about ARC August!
I did finish this novel, and I’m glad I did. It was a tough read and it doesn’t really make sense until the middle of the book and once the pieces started falling into place I was able to enjoy it more. However, I can completely understand why it would be a DNF for some, because it was very bizarre and hard to follow. The first page alone had me wondering about it, until a friend convinced me to give it a chance.
I didn’t finish it as well. The way it was written, made it read like a history textbook. I didn’t even put up a review for it. I sent one to the authors though. I couldn’t justify giving a review on the website because how much I didn’t like it.
