New Obsession: Podcasts!

obsessions

I’ve started listening to podcasts on my daily commute and I love them! I find that they’re easier for me to listen to because they’re shorter and I don’t feel as impatient as I do compared to audiobooks. Anyway, here are some of the ones that I really enjoy and recommend! *I listen through iTunes although some of these do appear on other sites*

Oh No Ross and CarrieOh No, Ross and Carrie!
Hosted by Ross Blocher and Carrie Poppy
New Podcasts Around Monthly

Welcome to Oh No, Ross and Carrie!, the show where we don’t just report on spirituality, fringe science and the paranormal (from a scientific, evidence-based standpoint), but dive right in by joining religions, attending spiritual events, undergoing “alternative” treatments, partaking in paranormal investigations, and more. At Oh No, Ross and Carrie!, we show up, so you don’t have to.

Each episode of our show deals with an investigation of a religion, fringe group, or fringe science practice. Join us as we ask tough questions, explore the nature of belief, and always find the humor in life’s biggest mysteries.

My Thoughts: This particular podcast is pretty interesting and I love listening to Ross and Carrie on their adventures. I listened to one where they take a pill for a month that is supposed to make you look 30% more beautiful the next day so… this was interesting.

Hosted by Rita Meade
New Podcasts Bi-Weekly

A bi-weekly show that answers your questions about life, love, and literature. (Written in the form of questions to a book nerd where Rita answers them).

My Thoughts: Rita has a lovely voice and her thoughts are definitely insightful. I definitely recommend this one for book nerds! The best part about this one is that you don’t have to listen to all of them but rather choose ones that have topics that you are interested in like “how to diversify your shelves” as an example!

Hosted by Liberty Harding and Rebecca Schinsky
New Podcasts Weekly

All the Books! is a weekly show of recommendations and discussions about the most interesting and exciting new book releases.

My thoughts: Liberty and Rebecca have awesome voices and seem like people I’d want to be friends with so I approve. Also I definitely don’t mind hearing about new releases. Another one I highly recommend for book nerds!

download (1)The Read
Hosted by Kid Fury and Crissle
New Podcasts Weekly

Join Kid Fury and Crissle for their weekly podcast covering hip-hop and pop culture’s most trying stars. Throwing shade and spilling tea with a flippant and humorous attitude, no star is safe from Fury and Crissle unless their name is Beyoncé. (Or Blue Ivy.)

As transplants to NYC, The Read also serves as an on-air therapy session for two friends trying to adjust to life and rats in the big city.

The Read is part of the LoudSpeakers Network and is published every week on iTunes, iHeart Radio Talk, Soundcloud& Stitcher.

***This show has explicit language***

My Thoughts: I have almost zero knowledge about hip-hop but Kid Fury and Crissle are entertaining to listen to and their personalities are so engaging that they make the show fascinating on their own. The language caught me off guard at first but I just love how they’re unafraid to speak their minds.

Written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor and Narrated by Cecil Baldwin
New Podcasts on the First & Fifteenth of Every Month

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff’s Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events.

Turn on your radio and hide.

My Thoughts: Oh man, how I love this podcast! There are tons of episodes and I’ve officially listened to them all (and have a signed beloved copy of the book) and it’s unlike anything I’ve listened to before. I just highly recommend it!

I do have a ton of more podcasts I want to try and so I hope to post a part 2 of this post! Anyway, do you listen to podcasts? Are you looking for some great ones? Do any of these sound like your type of thing? Let’s discuss in the comments!

  1. I love podcasts! I only recognize Welcome to Night Vale on this list, though. Other podcasts that I listen to are more related to creativity and business, and one that’s a detective podcast, but it sadly hasn’t been updated recently. And that’s about it!

  2. I love podcasts too. Most of the ones I listen to are related to TV shows (The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black). I listen to 3 or 4 on each show. I also listen to some ghost stories ones (Real Ghost Stories Online, Anything Ghost) and some crime ones (Serial and some of the ones that discuss Serial, Generation Why, Sword and Scale) The newest podcasts I’ve picked up are The Black Tapes, Lore, and Scared?

I liked Welcome to Night Vale but I stopped after the first 9 episodes. I’d like to go back and pick it up again. I think it’s the kind that’s best listened to straight through, or at least as episodes are released, so I plan to do that sometime. The Black Tapes and Serial are like that too, but there are fewer episodes.

    • That’s awesome, I have to get more into fictitious ones as well! And I LOVE Welcome to Night Vale, I really hope you continue with the series!

  3. I’m definitely going to check out Oh no, Ross and Carrie because it sounds really interesting! I’ve been getting into podcasts lately too. The ones I’ve been listening to are: Dear Hank and John, The Jess Lively Show, Call Your Girlfriend and Happier with Gretchen Rubin 🙂
