With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…

Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

Mercury Striking has a 4.14 rating on Goodreads and a synopsis promising nonstop action and all the steamy sex. Obviously, with ratings like that and my love of post apocalyptic urban fantasy this should have been an easy L-O-V-E I-T read.

The big word there was SHOULD have…..

Glee Side Eye

I started it, and was actually digging it. There was this world; our world, that has been ravaged by some horrible and unstoppable bacteria. A woman who was changed by the bacteria but not killed and driven crazy like the other 99% of the country, on a mission to a place that promised safety but also the chance for her to try to find a cure. Oh. Did I forget to mention that the woman in question was Lynn? Head of the CDC when the shit hit the fan. A woman either hated because people believed she created the bacteria, or feared because the “government” had spread rumors of her carrying something even deadlier. Enter next, Jax. The traditional bad ass alpha sex god that all UF’s have. To be honest I actually really liked Jax. He was everything you would assume him to be. Brooding. Possessive. Dirty in the best way possible. Damaged but no so much where he couldn’t be “fixed”. And the sex! Jesus this man could make a nun…

Oop Beyonce

So what was so bad you ask? If the characters were cool. The steamy scenes were extra hot. Why did I like it so little? Because Lynn was ANNOYING. The plot was weak and more predictable that what would happen next at a Nascar race. And everything happened just way too conveniently. And normally I can overlook questionable characters if the plot has some juice to it but I saw what was coming a 100 miles away. I realize this wasn’t meant to be some mystery/suspense read, and I would have forgiven the predictable plot if Lynn had been less super smart damsel in distress and more…well just smart. I actually read this in the early morning hours and texted Shelly my thoughts as I read BEFORE she woke up. *SPOILERS LAY AHEAD! BEWARE! Or don’t. Whatevs. It’s your life*
