There is no way I’d let pride month pass without doing a post so here’s the first in a series of blog posts for pride 2017! In the past, I’ve done a few guest posts and personal essays but I wanted to take it a bit easy this year and focus on reading. With BookExpo books, review copies, and my own personal collection, I have a lot to read.
I’ve always stated that I read for escapism, and I love celebrating Pride by reading books that allow me to escape and find joy, especially in today’s tough environment. My posts will try to emphasize happy books, because that’s just the way I read. But of course, I can’t resist sneaking in some awesome adventure stories and fantasy books that may rip my heart out. I know not everyone shares my reading taste so I totally understand if some TBR piles will look wildly different.
If you’re attempting to read queer books for this year’s pride, I hope you find yourself and/or your peers reflected in the stories you read. You deserve to find yourself in the books you read, and I hope that you do. <3
Without further ado, here’s my proposed TBR! As always, it’s way too ambitious.
Review Copies
Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert
The Gallery of Unfinished Girls by Lauren Karcz
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
27 Hours by Tristina Wright
Release by Patrick Ness
Bought/Owned Books
Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee
Perfect Ten by L. Philips
Anything Could Happen by Will Walton
Tattoo Atlas by Tim Floreen
And I Darken by Kiersten White
The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson
These are all books I bought but haven’t read yet! I honestly had a hard time finding bought and unread LGBT books which makes me pleased but also worried because I clearly need to buy more books now.
This list is a bit ambitious but I am cautiously optimistic.
What’s on your TBR for the month? Anything I need to read ASAP? Let’s chat in the comments!
Good luck with your reading for Pride month! I have hard that Perfect Ten by L. Philips is supposed to be excellent!
Just read and loved MASK OF SHADOWS; hope you will too! Next up for me is THE GALLERY OF UNFINISHED GIRLS!
Oooo I think I will! I have to read GALLERY sometime this month too, but I’m itching towards THE TIGER’S DAUGHTER right now 😛
I loved The Gallery of Unfinished Girls! It’s such a quiet & unassuming book so I see it slipping under the radar post-release but I adored it. And now I feel like I finally have a f/f book that I can recommend to fans of Jandy Nelson because all I have wanted is that kind of literary f/f for so long!
I am v. jealous that you will be reading 27 Hours & Wild Beauty soon. I’m sure they’re both excellent!
