Hi everyone! Marvel Comics recently had a buy one get one free sale on their digital comics, through Comixology, so I bought a bunch of new comics and have already gotten through a large chunk of them. I thought it’d be fun to review them and if you’re into comics, this is the perfect post for you.

COLLECTING: THE UNSTOPPABLE WASP 5-8, TALES TO ASTONISH 44
I’m so mad that Marvel cancelled this series because it’s really one of my new favourites. The first volume was more about learning about Nadia and her backstory while the second volume really focused on some powerful themes like found families and supporting women. It was just so lovely and I wish there was more to this series, though the letter at the end of the volume says that Nadia will appear in other Marvel series.
She-Hulk vol. 2: Let Them Eat Cake by Mariko TamakiPublished by Marvel on January 23rd 2018
Goodreads
Let them eat cake! Jennifer Walters is only just getting used to her new Hulk alter ego when an internet-famous cooking show host transforms into a hideous monster - on camera! Now, Jen must come to terms with her own monstrous side in time to help. Can she find an antidote for the host before the drug that caused it hits the streets - and its horrific effects start to spread? Maybe with a little help from Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!
COLLECTING: HULK 7-11
I really liked this second installment of She-Hulk. After the events of Civil War II, I wasn’t sure what was in store for Jennifer but I think this series has been really well done so far in handling Jennifer’s grief for *spoilery reasons*.
I also love Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat (she’s of my favourite Marvel heroes) so I was glad to see her in this volume, as her and Jennifer are best friends. I always love when my favourite heroes appear in each other’s solo runs and it was nice to see Patsy again.
Iceman vol. 1: Thawing Out by Sina GracePublished by Marvel on January 8th 2018
Goodreads
Bobby Drake has been in the super hero game longer than most - but what has he left behind besides a few good one-liners and a string of failed relationships? And now a younger version of himself has emerged from the timestream - and he's more put together than Bobby ever was. He grapples with his gay identity and his family and how to build a life and legacy he can be proud of...and become the best Iceman he can be! But, whether it's seeking his ex-girlfriend Kitty Pryde's advice on meeting guys, or delivering his latest news to his folks, it won't be easy - and that's before a gang of revenge-seeking Purifiers comes calling! And, still learning to be comfortable in his own skin, Bobby will meet someone who's perhaps too comfortable in his - the son of Wolverine himself, Daken!
COLLECTING: Iceman 1-5
I love this Iceman run! I’ve always been a huge fan of the X-Men and I really like the way in which Bobby’s character was expanded. Usually I’m not a fan of retconning character’s identity and I wasn’t sure how Marvel would handle Bobby being gay but I think that the writer did a great job. Echoing other reviews, I think the cover art by Kevin Wada spoiled me a little because the inside art wasn’t as pretty but I love the writing so it still gets full stars from me.
Defenders vol. 1: Diamonds are Forever by Brian Michael BendisPublished by Marvel on December 26th 2017
Goodreads
Daredevil! Luke Cage! Jessica Jones! Iron Fist! Individually, these four heroes have been on the front lines of the battle to keep the streets of the city safe and secure! But now, with a deadly enemy from the dim past making a major move to unite the underworld, they will need to become more-they will need to become DEFENDERS! Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez unite to bring you the next great super-team, in the tradition of NEW AVENGERS!
COLLECTING: DEFENDERS 1-5, FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2017 (DEFENDERS STORY)
I really enjoyed the Defenders TV Show so I really wanted to pick up this new comic starring a few of my favourite heroes. If you’ve also seen Luke Cage, then you know that the main villain is Diamondback. It was interesting to see Diamondback return in this volume and the defenders having to team up to take him down. I will say that the TV show has made me hate Iron Fist (he’s just so cringe-worthy on screen) but the comics remind me that I can tolerate him.
America vol. 1: The Life and Times of America Chavez by Gabby RiveraPublished by Marvel on October 31 2017
Goodreads
At last! Everyone's favorite no-nonsense powerhouse, America Chavez, gets her own series! Critically acclaimed young-adult novelist Gabby Rivera and all-star artist Joe Quinones unite to shine a solo spotlight on America's high-octane and hard-hitting adventures! She was a Young Avenger. She leads the Ultimates. And now she officially claims her place as the preeminent butt-kicker of the entire Marvel Universe! America just has to stop an interdimensional monster or two first and shut down a pesky alien cult that's begun worshipping her exploits before work can begin. Then she can get on with her first assignment: a field trip to the front lines of World War II - with Captain America as her wingman!
COLLECTING: AMERICA 1-6
America Chavez is one of my favourite marvel heroes of all time. I’ve loved her since her Young Avengers introduction and I was so excited to see her get her own series. I really like that the writer of this run is a YA author and the artist is one of my favourites, as he’s done Howard the Duck. The first few issues didn’t grab me as much and I wasn’t that interested in that story line but I loved the latter half of the volume, as Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) makes an appearance, and I can’t wait to keep reading.
