Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried. When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.
As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?
I received a copy of this book for review from Indigo Teen. This does not influence my thoughts on this book or this review.
I’ve heard a lot about Tiffany D. Jackson’s books and after it was pitched to me as ‘for fans of mystery podcasts’, I knew I had to read it. Monday’s Not Coming
When Claudia’s best friend, Monday, doesn’t show up to class in the beginning of 8th grade, Claudia is worried. As the second week rolls around and Monday’s not there yet, Claudia decides to investigate. But as she starts to search around, she realizes that nobody seems to notice that Monday’s not coming but her.
I really liked the writing style. Claudia’s voice was so strong and I really feel like readers could easily connect with her. Jackson really has a writing style that grips you and make you feel like the pages are flying by, even though Monday’s Not Coming was 400 pages long. While this mystery wasn’t exactly in the ‘who did it’ category, it was still really gripping and I definitely couldn’t put the book down.
Overall, Monday’s Not Coming is a gripping mystery that will definitely captivate you but also shake you.
