What I’ve Been Doing Instead of Reading……

Want to know the last time I read an actual novel? You sure? Ok…..

That’s right…June…don’t even ask me when I last picked up a YA book. The shame is too much to bare honestly.

And what, pray tell, have I been occupying my time with you ask? I wish I could say I’ve been doing something productive. I wish I was one of those people who could say “oh I’ve been taking a class/training for a marathon/I picked up a hobby of rebuilding engines/proving to scientist that Pluto is STILL A PLANET (I will go down with that ship) or something like that but nope. The first, time consuming rabbit hole I fell down was anime.

Yuri On Ice!!! can take full responsibility for the rabbit hole that ate my life up. I binged it in one night (stayed up way past when the sun came up). And from there I was CONVINCED that I needed to get my money’s worth for my CrunchyRoll subscription so I spent the next few weeks consuming all the anime I could. Not even joking I finished 45 SERIES of anime between June and November. 45….but that’s a story for another post (which I hope you’ll check out when it goes live Saturday)! What has been consuming my time since November?? KPOP…yes. KPOP.

(Hi Jin!!!!!) So let’s get the first question I always get out the way. No I don’t speak Korean. No I don’t know what they’re saying. No that isn’t stopping me from loving the fuck out of this entire genre. Don’t act like this time last year you weren’t jamming out to Despacito. I know you were. I know you’re singing it now. Ummm hmm.

And trust me 7 months ago when I saw a random “Things You Missed in BTS’s Blood Sweat & Tears Dance practice” video the first thing that I said was “WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM!? Naaaah”.

But I watched this -> video and I admit I was impressed. And that somehow morphed into many…many…many… MANY hours on YouTube finding artist that I’ve come to love (and not love because they all can’t be WINNER {that’s a KPOP joke}). I even got Shelly to fall down the rabbit hole (joint KPop post coming soon!!) and A (yes my 9year old jams nonstop to KPop).

And it’s not just the music that slays me (though their beats and lyrics, yes I read subtitles, are awesome) it’s the mix of the music, and the dancing, and just them as individuals. I love BTS. But I didn’t love BTS until I found out that they are legit 7 grown ass dorks.

So what does this have to do with RSR? Honestly I’m not 100% sure? I definitely want to start sharing music and shows (I’m into KDrama’s now but again…another post) and manga that has grabbed my interest with you lovelies. This doesn’t mean YA/NA/Adult/Sci-Fi/Fantasy books are off the table; it just means my interest have grown and I think it’s ok for RSR to reflect that now. So what can you look forward too?

  • A joint Kpop post with Shelly.
  • Maybe, and I do mean MAYBE, a review/vlog or the like of a KPop music video/album.
  • Manga post (I have so many ideas for this!!)
  • An intro to KDrama’s
  • A review of Children of Blood and Bone…in gifs.
  • More travel post! I have a few road trips planned over the next few months and I love sharing that kind of stuff here.

And I think that’s it! So please stay tuned, and anticipate some growth from RSR this year. I’m really excited to share all of this with our readers and I hope you’re excited to see where this takes us.

      I KNOW!!! I’m terrible truly….but also…..anime is awesome as is Kpop….as is the abundance of ice cream I’ve been eating to take my mind off all the judging I feel coming from my book case?
