April KPop Releases!

Posted May 1, 2018 by Octavia in K-pop / 0 Comments

Before I get into the April releases that made it on Shelly and I’s playlist I need to do a quick shout out to two March releases I somehow forgot.

BSS, Just Do It
Artist: BSS {BSS is a sub-unit of Seventeen made up of DK, Seungkwan, and Hoshi}
Album: Just Do It – Single
Title Track: Just Do It | Music Video
Label: Pledis
Release Date: March 21 2018

Octavia: As expected of any members in Seventeen Just Do It is a fun, get up and dance kind of song. They’re total dorks throughout the entire song and they own it!

Shelly: This song is so fun and the dance is ridiculous, I utterly adore it.

Yong Jun Hyung Sudden Shower
Artist: Yong Jun Hyung ft. 10cm
Album: Sudden Shower – Single
Title Track: Sudden Shower | Music Video
Label: Around us Entertainment
Release Date: March 22 2018

Octavia: I fell for Junhyung after watching the first season of “It’s Dangerous Beyond The Blankets” Season 1. So when the video for Sudden Shower dropped I definitely knew I had to check it out. I had no idea I’d love the song this much though. It’s made it onto at least 4 of my playlist (again…another post for another time) and whenever it comes on I’m always shook by how amazing Junhyung and 10cm sound together.

Shelly: This song is amazing!! The vocals are great and I love it as well.

Sorry about that, but these two singles deserve so much love! But now on to the April releases!

Pentagon, Positive
Artist: Pentagon
Album: Positive
Title Track: Shine | Music Video
Label: Cube Entertainment
Release Date: April 2 2018

Shelly: I love this title track. It is so goofy and fun and silly and just a perfect song.

Octavia: It honestly kills me that this group doesn’t get more love. They are ridiculously talented and the title track Shine IS SO FREAKING FUN!

EXID, Lady
Artist: EXID
Album: Lady – Single
Title Track: Lady | Music VideoLabel: Banana Culture
Release Date: April 2 2018

Octavia: Lady was a song that had to grow on me to be honest. The first time I heard it was when I watched the video and honestly I was really aggravated by the (as I saw it) TLC rip off. I get that it was meant to be a throw back kind of song (which is why the song itself I really like!) but the video just rubbed me the wrong way. Is it a good summer song? Yes. Does it have some heavily appreciated 90’s vibes? Definitely. But I don’t go out of my way to listen to it.

WINNER, EVERYD4Y
Artist: WINNER
Album:EVERYD4Y
Title Track: EVERYDAY | Music VideoLabel: YG Entertainment
Release Date: April 4 2018

Shelly: I will admit that this album didn’t grab me at first but the casting in the Everyday video deserves a shout out alone. The song has also grown on me and I really do enjoy it.

Octavia: Next to iKon’s Return, WINNER’s EVERYD4Y is easily my favorite album so far this year. There are a lot of sounds on this album but what stands out the most to me is how it’s really reminiscent of trap music. It’s not a substitute obviously but it definitely has those vibes and I love and miss that from a lot of American rappers today. Favorite song is easily Mino’s (yes he my bias) Turn Off the Light. It is so sexy I can not even.

BTS, Face Yourself
Artist: BTS
Album: Face Yourself
Title Track: Don’t Leave Me | No MV or Performance Video at the time of this post
Label: BigHit Entertainment
Release Date: April 4 2018

Octavia: Since Face Yourself is mostly just the Japanese version of BTS songs I’m only going to talk about the two new songs, Don’t Leave Me and Let Go. I am biased ok. BTS is the best KPop group out to me and nothing short of amnesia will change my mind about that. With that disclaimer out there Don’t Leave Me is the power song I needed from them right now. The vocals hit you out of, what seems like, no where, and the beat? There aren’t enough good words to describe this one. Then you have Let Go. This one I had to warm up to only because I wasn’t expecting a ballad after Don’t Leave Me. But then Jimin’s vocals came in and that was it. I was slayed. I’m still being slayed.

Shelly: Don’t Leave Me is one of my favourite songs of the year. Like Octavia, I am also biased about BTS but Jin (my boo) killed it on those vocals and I am so proud of him. It’s such a good song. Let Go was also amazing but the song is about letting go and I am not ready to part with my boos but I still love it.

The Boyz, The Start
Artist: The Boyz
Album: The Start
Title Track: Giddy Up | Music Video
Label: Cre.Kre
Release Date: April 4 2018

Shelly: The name of the title track and accompanying dance is secondhand embarrassment worthy but I still love The Boyz and their voice. My favourite track off this album is ‘Get it’ and I love how it has more of a serious vibe than their other songs.

Octavia: I feel no (ok almost no) shame in admitting I jam out to Giddy Up. IT IS CATCHY! The Boyz is another large (12members total) group and while I don’t know all of them by name (yet…it’s only a matter of time and a YouTube rabbit hole) I can easily seem them becoming a favorite of mine. Their choreography is amazing, and their vocals are amazing. I do think their rap line could use some work but they’re young and have only just debuted. Growth is imminent.

Flowsik ft. Jessi, Wet
Artist: Flowsik ft. Jessi
Album: Wet – Single
Title Track: Wet | Music Video
Label: Southpaw
Release Date: April 4 2018

Octavia: Imagine my face when I found out KPop (if that’s even what this is) could satisfy my ratchet bone. Wet is my jam. It’s hella inappropriate, the flows are sick (ha I made a funny) and the video is literally life giving. It’s basically everything I love rolled into one and I’m so here for that.

Shelly: This song is amazing. I’ve yet to see the video (I need to get on it!!!) but I can imagine that it’s equally amazing.

Ten, New Heroes
Artist: Ten
Album: New Heroes – Single
Title Track: New Heroes | Music Video
Label: SM Entertainment
Release Date: April 6 2018

Shelly: I am obsessed with this song and the video is AMAZING. Ten is clearly a great dancer and artist and it really shows.

Octavia: You’d think that because this is a single I don’t have much to say but WRONG! First of all the entire song is in English so bonus. But most importantly Ten hit me so hard in the feels with the lyrics for this one. The song is so short but I feel so strongly about it! And the video is an actual work of art. I realize that’s said a lot but seriously. Art. Actual moving art. His dance skills alone are mind blowing, the vocals left me shook, and the entire video really just showcases Ten as an artist so well.

TWICE, What Is Love
Artist: TWICE
Album: What Is Love?
Title Track: What Is Love? | Music Video
Label: JYP Entertainment
Release Date: April 9 2018

Octavia: Ok so TWICE….I love the video to What Is Love? But overall the album is just a little too cutesy for me. Which kills me because their main rapper (Dahyun) is literally one of my fave girl group rappers. Honey boo boo got the flow! But overall I can’t listen to this. It feels like cotton candy for your brain and that’s too much sugar for me.

Shelly: Agreed. I’m not a huge fan of cutesy stuff.

EXO-CBX, Blooming Days
Artist: EXO-CBX
Album: Blooming Days
Title Track: Blooming Day | Music Video
Label: SM Entertainment
Release Date: April 10 2018

Octavia: I love love LOVE the set up of this album. It’s set up to mirror the days of the week (Monday Blues speaks to my SOUL!) and each song has a vibe of it’s own that somehow still works on the album as a whole. Blooming Day is my favorite, but I can say the reaming 6 tracks are all equally tied for 2nd and that’s just amazing.

Shelly: EXO is not one of my favourite artists (nobody murder me please) but this album is one of my favourites of this year. Surprisingly, Vroom Vroom has become my favourite song of the entire album and I love it despite its ridiculous name. I honestly didn’t even notice the days of the week set-up until Octavia pointed it out above.

Super Junior
Artist: Super Junior
Album: Replay
Title Track: Lo Siento ft. Leslie Grace | Music Video
Label: SM Entertainment
Release Date: April 12 2018

Octavia: Lo Siento is my jam right now! The Replay album in general has so many dance inducing songs but the title track is definitely my favorite! And the video is so different from what you normally see in KPop so lots of love for that alone.

Shelly:

The Rose, Void
Artist: The Rose
Album: Void
Title Track: Baby | Music Video
Label: J&Star
Release Date: April 16 2018

Octavia: WOW. Literally just wow. All the wows to The Rose. Their vocals. Their visuals. Their talents re instruments. Just all the fucking wows ok!? Watch the video, come back, and wow with me.

Shelly: This group is more rock than pop but I love that about them. This album is short but definitely worth a listen.

Whee In, Magnolia
Artist: Whee In
Album: Magnolia
Title Track: Easy – Single | Music Video
Label: RBW
Release Date: April 17 2018

Octavia: First of all Whee In is my bias wrecker of Mamamoo. I love them all but, Hwasa is my actual bias. Easy caught me totally offguard. The thumbnail made me envision a ballad for some reason but Whee In came to snatch wigs and I am here for all of it. And even though it has a groovy sound and you can’t help but dance along they lyrics are so damn good. This is how you make a break up song.

Shelly: Whee In is my total bias of Mamamoo and she slayed this song. It’s amazing and the video is equally gorgeous.

VIXX, Eau De VIXX
Artist: VIXX
Album: Eau De VIXX
Title Track: Scentist | Music Video
Label: Jellyfish Entertainment
Release Date: April 17 2018

Octavia: I have been playing Eau De VIXX on repeat legit for DAYSSSSS. I love Scentist but my fave by a long shot is My Valentine (you should check out their live performance of it because SWEET BABY JESUS YES. VIXX is really new to me (don’t worry I’ll fall down the YouTube rabbit hole later) but I love what I’ve heard so far and I’m pumped to hear and learn more.

Jackson Wang, Dawn of Us
Artist: Jackson Wang
Album: Dawn of Us – Single
Title Track: Dawn of Us | Music Video
Label: Team Wang
Release Date: April 19 2018

Octavia: Two words. Summer. Vibes. Jackson SLAYSSSSS with Dawn of Us. From the music video to the actual song all I can think about is summer and the fun that comes with that.

Shelly: MY BOO IS BACK WITH SUMMER VIBES AND I AM HERE.FOR.IT.

Hyolyn, Dally
Artist: Hyolyn
Album: Dally – Single
Title Track: Dally | Music Video
Label: Brid3
Release Date: April 23 2018

Octavia: Go watch the video. Don’t worry. I’ll wait……. you not slick. Go on and watch it…..You watch it? You sure? Ok. So. SHE DID THAT! YOU GO BOO BOO! I already knew Hyloyn had vocals and all the sex appeal but she multiplied that by 10 with Dally. And to top it off it’s a straight up banger. Definitely adding it to my playlist.

Shelly: Like Octavia said, this song is the epitome of SHE DID THAT. The video is amazing and definitely different from what I’ve seen from other artists but I love it.

JB, Loco & Hwa Sa, The Hyena on the Keyboard pt. 4

Artists: JB, Loco & Hwa Sa
Album: The Hyena on the Keyboard, Pt.4- EP
Title Track: Rainy by JB | Don’t by Loco and Hwasa
Label: KBS, licensed to Leon Entertainment Inc
Release Date: April 21, 2018

Shelly: These two songs are from a variety show but they are EVERYTHING. Not only do we get our boo JB (from GOT7) with a great new song but we get Loco and Hwa Sa (from Momoland) collaborating on a killer song.

Octavia: JB is my ultimate bias. Like that is my boo! So seeing him perform this GAVE ME LIFE! But more than that the song has so much soul and you can feel that JB put a lot of effort and thought into it and obviously I appreciate that. Then there’s Hwasa; another one of my biases, and Loco, my newest boo on my never ending lists of boos killing it in the hellah sassy Don’t! I’ve never watched The Hyena on the Keyboard but I definitely am going to start!
