Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

I received a copy of this book for review. This does not influence my thoughts on this book or this review.

I love both Becky Albertalli’s and Adam Silvera’s books so when I heard that they had a book coming out together, I knew I would love it. I definitely was not wrong and What If It’s Us is a perfect combination of their writing talents.

Ben is having a horrible summer, not only did his boyfriend break up with him but he has to spend his summer in school. On the day that Ben goes to the post office to mail his ex-boyfriend’s belongings, he bumps into Arthur. While Arthur is only in new York for the summer, he think that he and Ben had a definitely meet-cute. What If It’s Us is about the ‘what if’ that happens when any two people who have a connection meet.

While I really do like both authors, I do think that Ben had more of a complex and three-dimensional personality. I think both Albertalli and Silvera are strong writers but I do think that Silvera’s character was a bit more complicated and refined in this particular case. I felt like Ben’s character was more fleshed-out and I definitely found his POV more realistic. I did like the overall plot and story but I definitely found that Ben wasn’t as strong of a character.

A lot of people are probably wondering about the ending, whether it will be a HEA like Becky’s books or a sad ending like Adam’s. While I will not spoil the particulars of the ending, I do think it is really a combination of both of the writer’s writing. They described the ending as a combination of both of their styles and I really do see that.

Overall, What If It’s Us was definitely a cute book and I really do recommend it for both of their fans. Their story to publication on this book is really cute and I really think that it’s worth all of the support and attention that it will receive.
