If you’ve been on book Twitter lately, I’m sure you’ve seen some tweets about a Goodreads alternative called The StoryGraph! I signed up for the beta test and now that I’ve been using it for a few weeks, I decided to write a post sharing my experiences with it. For the record before I begin, I am obsessed with The StoryGraph and I haven’t checked my Goodreads at all since (except to post an update saying that I’m migrating over to The StoryGraph). The StoryGraph lets you import your GoodReads data so if you did switch over, you don’t have to start from scratch. Anyway, onto describing some of my favourite features below!

Mood Reading

One of my favourite features about The StoryGraph is that it assigns a mood to each book making it perfect for a mood reader like me. I just finished reading Bonds of Brass by Emily Strutskie so I included an example of it below. In blue, you can see the genre labels and in red, you can see some of its characteristics like mood & pace. It’s really helpful and fun!

Personalized Statistics

If you’ve always been interested in seeing your reading statistics, The StoryGraph is also for you! I’ve always wanted to keep track of my reading statistics but I’ve found the use of spreadsheets and manually entering the data a bit troublesome. With The Storygraph, they share your overall statistics and even break down your reading habits. Here’s my profile below!

Personalized Recommendations

The StoryGraph’s primary features are about personalized recommendations in a feature they call “Ordered For You” which basically lists a bunch of books they think you’d like based on your personalized selections. Here is a small sampling of my Ordered For You. While these first two picks aren’t ones I’ve marked “to read” before, there are a few in the list which are on my TBR so I really appreciated seeing that. I also liked that the questions about setting up your Ordered For You were so detailed and that they also asked what you don’t like. You can also filter your “Ordered For You” results with so much accuracy that it’s a bit scary. Here are the highlights of it all below!

If you’re interested in checking it out, please do! The StoryGraph had a bit of a backlog with such a high increase in users but they’re all caught up now so there’s no time like now to try it out! They’re also in beta mode so everything is not quite perfect yet, but I am really impressed with it so far. If you’ve used this site before, let me know your thoughts on it!
